F.A.Q.'s

These are some frequently asked questions at our office. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

If I brush regularly, why do I need regular cleaning in your office?

Every body should brush twice a day, and floss once a day. These basic cleaning procedures are required to maintain good oral hygiene. But brushing and flossing do not reach all areas of your mouth. Dental cleaning is performed using specific cleaning tools, that clean deeper than your toothbrush or floss. During your cleaning, a dentist or hygienist will check for cavities, gum disease, TMJ problems ( Jaw Joint), and oral cancer. This is a good time to discuss other oral concerns with your dentist.

What is the age to start regular dental checkups for children?

We see children as early as 2 years of age, or when children get their first tooth.

What is ZOOM!®?

Zoom!® is our in-office whitening system. It takes 1 visit of sixty minutes, and leaves you with a whiter, brighter smile. The procedure involves applying a special gel to your teeth and exposing the teeth to a Zoom! Light. We also provide other options for teeth whitening such as take home kit. Our office has recently started a special offer to our patients using Zoom!. Call us for details.

Why my insurance did not cover this procedure?

All insurance plans work differently, but most plans cover cleanings, examinations, and x-rays fully. Fillings, root canals, gum treatment, and extractions are covered partially ( up to 80%) Crowns, bridges, and dentures are also covered partially ( up to 50%). The amount covered, depends on your particular plan. The Explanation of Benefits (EOB) document you receive from your insurance company will have these details. Customer service person from the insurance company will be able to tell you the exact amount that the company will pay for each procedure. Feel free to call the number on your insurance card or EOB and ask questions, you have already paid for that service with your premium. You can also contact us if you need any details about the procedures.

If my tooth hurts and the office is closed, what should I do?

  • The best thing to do is call our office, and get in touch with Dr. Gole on her emergency contact number.
  • If the pain is mild to moderate, consider taking over the counter pain relievers. Please make sure to consult a pharmacist regarding your allergies, and chemical interactions of the pain medication with other drugs that you are currently taking.
  • You can also apply a cold compress to the area. When applying a cold compress, you apply gentle pressure to the affected area with an ice pack wrapped in a towel, from outside of the cheek, every other 20 minutes. This will numb the area, and reduce your pain.
  • Consider gently flossing, and rinsing with warm salt water 3-4 times a day.
  • Rest as much as possible, because activity aggravates pain.

If my temporary crown (cap) falls off, what should I do?

It is advisable to see Dr. Gole as soon as possible, because a tooth without a crown can become sensitive or break. If left alone for a long duration, teeth in the surrounding area can shift into the empty space, making it difficult to place the permanent crown.
